Every once in a while, just in case I forget that I live a few miles from a potentially deadly area in the country, Pasadena decides to test the emergency system that blares from the streets:
“This is only a test!”
Yeah, that’s really reassuring.
My sister, the teacher, can give me stories about sheltering her kids in place — a very scary thing. And, did you know that now they have… well, I guess I’d call them terrorist drills? That’s when they try to train the elementary school kids not to make sounds when they are locked down and someone comes to their door to try to get in.
We live in a scary scary place.
