Dallas to offer free wi-fi at parks, libraries
— reported by KTRK ABC Channel 13
Dallas residents will be able to surf the Web for free from city parks and libraries under a plan to provide free wireless Internet by year’s end.
City officials said they plan to install Internet hotspots that would be accessible in all city libraries and about 12 parks by computer owners with wireless fidelity Internet cards.
Brack said it is easier and cheaper to install wireless connections in Dallas libraries because they’re already equipped with wired broadband connections. Open spaces such as parks are more challenging, because some require workers to first install broadband lines, which connect into outdoor signal transmitters, he said.
