Senate Revisiting Immigration As Rallies End
— reported by Click2Houston.com
The day after an estimated million people took to the nation’s cities to demonstrate support for immigrants, Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist said he favors bringing the nation’s illegal immigrants “out of the shadows.”
While he doesn’t support what he called “amnesty,” Frist said does favor a comprehensive approach of the sort favored by President George W. Bush.
He told CBS Mon Tuesday there’s a pressing need to deal with the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants in the United States in a “fair and compassionate way.”
Frist also said that new legislation must address the needs of businesses dependent on immigrant workers, perhaps with a temporary worker program.
