HISD superintendent pushes college-bound culture
— reported by KHOU CBS Channel 11
Full-day pre-kindergarten was one of the major announcements that came out HISD’s state of the schools address Tuesday by Superintendent Dr. Abe Saavedra.
Not every student in HISD will go to college, but the district’s top chief said he wants to make sure each student at least has the opportunity.
In his state of the schools address, Superintendent Dr. Abe Saavedra said his main goal is to create a college-bound culture throughout the district. He said simply graduating kids from high school is not enough.
One of his new initiatives is that students must outline a written, academic plan that takes them from middle school to the first years of college. It’s a plan parents must help with and one that will start before students finish middle school.
