TAKS test driving teachers, students from HISD?
— from KHOU CBS Channel 11
In coming weeks, thousands of public school students will be taking the TAKS test.
But is the test taking its toll on their teachers and contributing to teacher turnover?

It’s one of the biggest challenges for our public schools, finding and keeping good teachers. What’s driving some of them away? In Texas, some say it’s the test, the TAKS test.
That state-mandated test has become all important, with principals going to crazy lengths to inspire high scores.
And now, HISD has just announced a new program to pay teachers up to $3,000 in bonuses, based on their students TAKS scores.
HISD says its a bold plan that has drawn praise from across Houston and the entire nation and will motivate teachers.
